Frequently Asked Questions

What practice areas does Springboard Legal serve?

Kimberly DeCarrera runs a fractional general counsel and CFO firm. In addition to her current practice as a business lawyer, she has also personally been the law firm administrator for an insurance defense firm, as well as run a family law and estate planning firm.

In addition to her work directly on business, insurance defense, family law, and estate planning, she has worked extensively with law firms that practice in criminal law, family law, personal injury (plaintiff), immigration, and estate planning.

Springboard Legal can help your B2B or B2C practice grow in long-term sustainable ways.

What Business Models Does Springboard Legal Serve?

While all law firms want clients and revenue, your business model has a big impact in operations, recruiting and incentive plans for staff, and how you plan for the future.

Your business model, whether hourly billing or flat fee, contingency or subscription, will be taken into consideration in how Kimberly DeCarrera advises you on your growth strategies.

What Software Can Springboard Legal Assist With?

Our clients work with a variety of software systems – both Microsoft and Google workspaces, as well as a variety of law practice management systems and integrations. Some of the software suites that we are familiar with and can help your law firm implement or maximize include: Clio, CosmoLex, FileVine, LawPay, Lawlytics, MyCase, Practice Panther, and Smart Advocate. On the financial accounting side, we’ve worked with Freshbooks, QuickBooks, and Xero.

What Kind of Time Commitment Do I Need?

We recognize that your time is valuable. You cannot spend all day, every day with consultants and coaches. After all, you have a law firm to run.

Our law firm consulting and coaching packages are customizable to the time you want to commit. Springboard Legal offers monthly to weekly packages to help you in your evolution as a business owner. We are also flexible, so that you can increase or decrease your package as your needs change.

Is this one-size-fits-all consulting and coaching?

No! We recognize that not all solutions will work for every law firm. However, we all recognize that there are best practices that all businesses should strive for and that are commonly effective.

As a result, Kimberly DeCarrera offers advice on what has worked with other law firms (or even other professional service firms or pulling from other industries).

But business is often a game of trial and error. We will try things, and if they don’t work, try something else. We may tweak solutions to work for you, based on your goals, budget, and timeline.

Can you tell us what our KPIs are?

KPIs, or Key Performance Indicators, are established through an iterative process between you and your law firm consultant. Often, we will include your staff for maximum buy-in and effectiveness. So while we won’t tell you what your KPIs are (because they are different for every firm), we will help develop them for what works for your firm at this stage of your growth. And then re-evaluate regularly as you continue to grow.

Do you work with “lifestyle” law firms?

The short answer is yes. We want to help you build the law firm of YOUR dreams.

That often means that you aren’t looking to grow at the fastest rates because you welcome the trade-off from fast growth to a better work-life balance.

Also, we understand that there is a time and season for everything. Sometimes, we have the time and resources to devote to growth. Other times, we slow down the growth to focus on other priorities (such as physical or mental health, family, vacation, etc). We will work together to incorporate the lifestyle you want your firm to provide while understanding that the lifestyle can and will change over time.
